Keeping the Wood in Southwood Park

Hey neighbors, just checking in with a few things regarding our tree canopy!

TREE CARE
Did you know that trees still need support for 3 years after being planted? If you’ve gotten a tree from us in the past couple of years, please consider taking a peek at this amazing guide from the Sacramento Tree Foundation. The drip irrigation buckets they mention are very easy to make. Here is a good YouTube tutorial. I have extra tubing and drippers leftover after making mine. So if you want to do this project, let me know, you’ll just need to provide a 5 gallon bucket!

2026 TREE CANOPY BUDGET

Over the past few years, we’ve made an intentional effort to fill the gaps in our tree canopy and keep on top of succession planting. After dozens of volunteer hours and thousands of grant and neighborhood dollars, our 2026 planting planting list won’t exhaust what we had budgeted for tree investment this year. If you are interested in a street tree, please let us know as soon as possible. To view planting locations over the years, you can see them here.

To take things a step further, we’re offering residents up to a $100 reimbursement for trees planted ANYWHERE on their property. Just send us your information and a photo of your freshly planted tree and receipt , we’ll take take care of the rest!

TREE MERCH

Proceeds from our Keep the Wood in Southwood Park merch gets earmarked for tree canopy investments! While you’re there, please consider buying a Hate Has No Home Here yard sign. We are just 250 away from being able to make donations to Amani Family Services and the Fort Wayne Urban League. Delivery to the greater Fort Wayne area is free. Remember, you can get one without our neighborhood logo on it.
